About Our Society

EYFHS Logo

The East Yorkshire Family History Society was founded in February 1977. Its main aims are to bring together those persons interested in the study of family history, wherever they might be in the world, and to help in the preservation of archive materials by transcribing, indexing and publishing at-risk documents.

Our area of interest covers parishes as far north as Fylingdales and Ugglebarnby, south westwards by way of Goathland, Cropton, Great Edstone and Salton, continuing south past Huttons Ambo, east of the City of York and down to the banks of the River Humber. Much of this western boundary is delineated by the River Derwent and the River Ouse, our eastern boundaries being marked by the Yorkshire coastline. View the full parish list here.

EYFHS meets most months, except August and December at its four centres in Beverley, Bridlington, Kingston upon Hull and Scarborough. (No July meetings in Hull). A December Christmas Social is also held at the Beverley Centre.

A recent meeting at one of our Beverley Venue's as members and guests begin to settle, ready for the evening's speaker.

You can see the details of forthcoming events on our diary pages. Non members are welcome to come along and meet the Society at any venue/meeting and, although we would like you to join our Society and support our work, your first visit is always free so you can find out if we are suitable for you. Don't come alone, bring a friend or two; you will all be made welcome and no pressure is put on anyone to join.

Family History Helpdesks are held at a number of venues around our region. These are free to anyone, not just society members. While we offer a number of benefits for members only, as a society we feel that it is import that the joys of our 'hobby' and experience be as widely shared as possible. Helping fellow enthusiasts, particularly beginners and novices, offers our team of expert genealogist the opportunity to spread those joys to others. You can discover the dates and times of our public helpdesks elsewhere on this site.
