Coverage:
East Riding Medical Men is a companion work to The Medical Profession in Hull, 1400 1900, published in 1983. It includes those found practising any form of medicine in East Yorkshire outside Hull, and excluding York itself. It should however be emphasised that it was largely completed before the resources of the Internet were widely available. In addition, parochial documents produced on the western fringe of our Riding being for the most part held in York have been consulted much less than those deposited in the Diocesan Registry at Beverley. Indexes to probate material from the York Diocesan Courts were searched before the removal of the Borthwick Institute to the University campus at Heslington, York. However, the East Riding Registry of Deeds helped to bridge the gap, at least for those with property to dispose of. |
