When dealing with census records, never forget that they are not a primary source. Census Enumerators copied the Household Schedule into the Enumerator's Book and it is this copy which you are reading whenever you look up a census record. Census Enumerators will have made mistakes when they copied this data. The original household schedules were destroyed.

For the first time ever, the 1911 census release will make the original Household Schedule available for viewing, which mean you will be able to see the original hand of the person who completed the form.
