This was the first census to include personal data and the first to be of any use to family historians. The following information was recorded for each dwelling;
There was a great deal of suspicion about the census, particularly the profession and birthplace questions. Many believed it to be a way of gathering data for The Poor Law and that they would end up being sent back to their place of birth, or subjected to extra charges by the parish. There was a lot of 'census dodging' as a consequence.
